According to Trade Operations, the incident took place approximately 110 miles (177 km) southeast of Aden.
The British military reported that a ship was hit by missile fire in the Gulf of Aden, slightly off the coast of Yemen. Trade Operations claimed that the ship's skipper reported that the "port side of vessel hit from above by a missile" and that the attack occurred approximately 110 miles (177 km) southeast of Aden.

Authorities are looking into it, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), and ships in transit are being urged to proceed with "extreme caution".
According to Associated Press, Eagle Bulk, a company based in Stamford, Connecticut, is the owner of the ship and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

A fire broke out on board the US-owned bulk carrier flying the Marshall Islands flag, according to Ambrey, a British marine risk business. The business "assessed the attack to have targeted US interests in response to US military strikes on Houthi military positions in Yemen" , stated Ambrey. It stated that the ship had been "assessed to not be Israel-affiliated."

The Houthi rebels in Yemen fired missiles in that region in the past, but they did not immediately recognise any strike. This occurs after Houthis previously in the Red Sea fired an anti-ship cruise missile in the direction of an American destroyer. In the midst of Israel's conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the US fighter plane shot it down in the most recent strike on international ships.

In an effort to support Hamas, the Houthis have targeted the vital route that connects petroleum and cargo flows from Asia and the Middle East to the Suez Canal and ultimately to Europe. The US claimed that the missile originated close to Hodeida and stated, "An anti-ship cruise missile was fired towards USS Laboon from Iranian-backed Houthi militant areas of Yemen." No damage or injuries were reported.
